ONE SPARK

One Spark is a record about gratitude, encouragement, and the people whose belief in us helps shape who we become. The “one spark” can be a word of encouragement, a teacher, a friend, a family member, a musical hero, or anyone who sees something in us before we fully see it in ourselves. The album honors those moments of support and the shoulders we stand on as we find our own way forward.
Musically, the record moves through jazz, soul, Brazilian rhythm, funk, electronic textures, and more aggressive electric sounds, reflecting the many influences and communities that have shaped Benjamin Adamson’s musical life. Trumpet and flugelhorn remain at the center, surrounded by synths, Rhodes, vibraphone, guitar, percussion, and deeply improvisational rhythm sections.
From the optimism of “Winning” and the movement of “Rio de Janeiro,” to the restless energy of “Binary Punk,” the openness of “One Spark,” and the warmth of “Little Obi,” the record is ultimately about carrying something forward — recognizing what others have given us, adding our own voice, and hopefully becoming a spark for someone else.
